Chapter 9

Money

The area that seems to bring up the most anguish for people in spiritual healing is whether or not to take money or charge money for healing.

Several years ago, when I started channeling healing to people other than my family, I didn’t know what I should do about charging money for healings. I was afraid if I charged money or took donations, God would get mad at me for being materialistic and take my gift away. Fortunately for me, I was working full time as a barber during the day while I started my career as a healer. It was a good arrangement in the beginning, working during the day to support myself and doing healings at night. After a few months, however, my energy was running low, and my arms ached from working as a barber. I knew I had to make a decision to do one career or the other: be a barber or be a healer and psychic. I just did not have the energy to be good at both.

The decision was a very difficult one for me because as a barber, I had a secure, well-paying job and “fit into the real world.” I could pick and choose who I wanted to know about my healing and psychic abilities. If I quit my secure barbering job and “came out of the closet” with my other abilities, everyone would know, and I didn’t feel very comfortable being that vulnerable.

I prayed and meditated. I asked God daily for signs, clear signs as to what to do. Which path should I travel down? What would people think of me? Could I make it financially? How would I get enough business to have a busy, successful career? There was much fear and doubt.

After anguishing for about a month, I felt an inner guidance that it was time to quit barbering and follow my path, which was to be a psychic and spiritual healer. The one area I could not get peaceful with was whether or not to charge money for the healings.

I asked everyone I knew what they thought I should do. Everyone had a different opinion. One of my friends told me that if I started taking money for spiritual healing, he wouldn’t be my friend anymore. He said it was wrong to mix money with spiritual gifts and that the healers in the Bible all had “day jobs” as tent makers, carpenters, et cetera.

I made a decision to charge money for psychic readings, but would not charge for healings until I was clearly shown what to do. While waiting for “my sign,” I was slowly going into debt. I was making a fourth of the income I had been making as a barber, but I felt an inner determination to stay on my path and continue to wait for my sign from God. I clearly needed more money. I was getting increasingly stressed from all the financial pressures I had, but I had this terrible fear God
